Vocational Training under the Kilimanjaro

Vocational training is the key to economic and social development in Africa.  The mission is to provide state of the art teaching for the technologic requirements of the the modern world and not only just sufficient skills to survive in today's sometimes rather makeshift facilities. This  demands that  positive work ethik and skills of organisation to be be taught as well.

The St. Joseph's Vocational Training Centre (VTC) aims to set standards in quality of workmanship on an international level. It  is situated in Bomangombe, Tanzania, a rapidly growing small town on the foot of the mighty Mountain of Kilimanjaro. Since 2008 the school offers practical and theoretical training in

  • Motor vehicle vechanics and mechatronics,
  • Tayloring and
  • Computer/ PC-courses for administrational and secretarial services

according to the official Tanzanian curricula. Further professions, like carpentry, electric installations or plumbing will follow as soon as funds and staff can be found. Operated by a catholic missionary comunity (ALCP/ OSS), the school is open for boys and girls of all tribal, racial or religious backgrounds especially from the region of Bomangombe.

The construction and development of the VTC has so far been funded solely by private donations because the workshops are not yet established enough in the market to contribute to the operational cost and the scholarship fund. It is the aim of the sponsors and operators to develop the capacity of the School as well as the professionalism of the workshops to an international level that the VTC can stand on its own feet – or at least allmost.
